Impersonation Jason: doing my best Magician's Reveal,"Ta-Da." (Time-Travel)
May 2004: “The Tour of the Curbside Prophets” crossed the US. It was a concept tour of acoustic acts playing solo as if busking on a street corner. I brought along Hawaiian Slack-Key guitarist, Makana and Pop Jazz Genius Raul Midon to fill the bill. Both were fairly unknown at the time. But I was eager to share the stage with musicians that would surprise audiences. Providing pre-show and intermission atmosphere as well as collaborating throughout the show were DJ Christian Gamez and Percussionist Jen Lowe. The results were fantastic. Each act segued into the next so there was never a moment without music or live entertainment from the moment you entered the theatre.
(Present Day)
April 2008: Welcome to version 2.0. “Music, Magic & Make Peace” is essentially the same concept but with entirely different ingredients. This time we’re bringing the prodigy of poetry and party, my long time friend and collaborator, Bushwalla. Also on board: the harmonious duo that is the Make Peace Brothers. And to host the show, we’ve invited the world class Magician and TV personality, Justin Kredible. So expect the unexpected.
(And for those in doubt of a multi-billed line-up, fear not. I still get plenty of stage time!)
This is a show that originated in the coffee houses, clubs, and house parties of San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco and we are delighted to have found a way to pack it all in a bus and bring it close to your town. We are a genuine community of lovers, out to Make Peace, and of course, a little Music & Magic.
We’ll travel like a circus from town to town and anticipate the show beginning as soon as the bio-diesel buses arrive. So don’t be surprised by impromptu sidewalk performances; juggling, freestyle games, and close-up magic.
And once in the theatre it’s anything goes. Who plays when and who plays what with whom (and how) is anybody’s guess.

god, i hate that i'm so freaking far away. i'm miss so much cool stuff. getting my hands on your new album is my only hope for getting my happiness back. love you, Jason. Visit Singapore when you can, okay?
ooh, dig your new website, by the way. i visit it like 20 times a day just to hear your voice. :D pathetic or what?
Awesome-r-ific! NC Will never be the same. We, all creatures great & small ;-), are anxiously anticipating the Greatest Show on earth.
i'm in class so i can't squeal like a little schoolgirl, but...eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
so. friggin. pumped.
mad love, mraz--stay safe and healthy!
you wear that black tape well! will you have justin play one of your songs and wear your hat? ;)
see you in philly, nyc, toronto and montreal ;)
Some people get to have all the fun....
For the first time, I'm sad that I'm a temporary expat living in London and will miss your US tour. Please come back to London-town real soon :) We miss you.
That would be nice to se in europe sometime too... maybe Hollands lowlands festival...?
Thanks for a great gig in Seoul on Friday. The only bad part... getting the flyer and learning that Raul Midon was there a few weeks earlier too... and we missed him. Damm a) my lack of research, and, b) the Korean habbit of hiding all info about music, shows and gigs.
But... August will soon be here.
Cheers for the 'heads up'
I love the way your facial features "adhere" to the theme of your show. :D
Only 11 days until our NE Mraz weekend starts! CAN'T WAIT! I couldn't get tix to Philly, but we drove 3 hours to Foxwoods (CT) in 2006 with no tickets and still managed to score some from the box office, so I'm just going to have to create that again. If not, I can always go visit my Dad for the evening, but I'm afraid his magic and mayhem won't hold a candle to you. :)
my insides are on a spin cycle from excitement over seeing the music, the magic, and the loving. happy love-tour-fest and keep it Here super friend ~
all my loving, and never any less ~
Ahh! I'm so excited! I'm going to the San Francisco show and I'm bringing a friend who is pretty much a stranger to your music so I think he'll be pleasantly surprised! :)
This sounds awesome. Come by the UK, its not too far out your way, honest. No really, it's not. Plane rides are cool anyway. 100%
that picture made my day...well, along with the journal of course.
I loved the curbside tour! I was lucky enough to see a few of those shows in california...SO much fun!
I can't wait to see this show! I have no doubt it's going to be fun, exciting, and amazing!!! Sure wish I could make it to more of your shows, but it took an act of God (or something like that) to make it to your toronto show. sooooooo excited!! see ya soon!!!
xoxoxoxoxoxo
i can't get over how excited i am for the music, magic, and making love...ah, it'll be so much fun and more, i'm counting the days.
see you at The Fillmore!
We have been waiting for 2 years now for you to grace us with your presence again in Northern CA. Looking forward to seeing you @ The Fillmore on Sat.
I am absolutely looking forward to April 17th! And I'm so thrilled to "anticipate the show beginning as soon as the bio-diesel buses arrive" -- now I'll just have to duck out of work early. Darn!
I'm psyched about Bushwalla being on the tour too, and I expect the rest of the crew to only add to the night. :)
Thanks for posting the video -- as my kids get closer to school age, I've become increasingly aware of how fortunate I've been to have received the education I did. I just recently got back in touch with a high school English teacher who seriously changed my poetry writing for the better. (Ironically, he can't stand poetry.) This June will be 10 years since my high school graduation, and I have realized now, the high school relationships that I've maintained and that have affected me most have been with teachers, not classmates. Without dedicated teachers who have the energy to take interest in their students, where will our future generations be? ... And that's not even touching on the necessity of having strong arts programs...
Wishing you & the gang safe travels!
Julie
you have no idea how mad I am that the Chicago show is already sold out. :(
haha
Bad for me cuz I don't get to go, but good for you I guess!
Have fun in the Windy City when you get here.
Eat the pizza. . .
it's the best!
sounds crazy magical and super fun! Variety playhouse is an awesome venue for that. I went to see Sia there not too long ago and it was awesome! Can't wait to see you. You're like my once a year friend. I've missed you, and it's always too long till we see each other again.
I kind of figured you & BW would be an already insanely f'd up time but throw in the others and it is going to be the best show we all go to this spring I am sure. See you carnys in PA.
Love the tape unibrow, stach & soul patch. You should have a top hat on & some tails...
you. are. ridiculous.
i can't wait to see you play again. hopefully i'll get to talk to you afterwards! i'm planning on trying to. haha
SEE YOU IN NYC.
peace. :)
Mr. Mraz,
Nice electrical tape facial accessories!! You look very magical!!
I am looking forward to the SANTA CRUZ GIG!! It's my fist Mraz concert! Actually my first interactive and imaginative concert!!
I am also very excited about the MAGIC!
Be safe on the road ...
buen dia,
-PJ
p.s. I hope there is some shirt less action on stage.
Sounds like.....
MAGIC
MUSIC
MAKING LOVE
and
FUN
Impromptu sidewalk performances, huh? Sweet. I've been itching to witness your juggling prowess in person. I can just imagine you and Bushwalla in San Francisco down by the pier on the street next to the gold dancing robot guy and the fire throwing guy. Now that would be magic!
Ahh, the Curbside Prophets tour. That was my first Jason Mraz concert experience and I haven't been the same since. I'm glad this tour will be similiar. I really can't wait!! See you in Santa Cruz as well as San Fran!
I am a bit bummed that you aren't coming to Arizona. I'd love to see you again. The last time I saw you was in 2005, way too long. Can't wait for the new album.
I hope you still have eyebrows after peeling off that tape .. yikes!
I don't know if you read these comments, but I have to put in a plead for Michigan! I don't know if you've finished scheduling dates for the tour, but Michigan misses you! Detroit especially, but the Chicago show is sold out and I can't afford the travel for the Toronto show, so anywhere in my home state would be amazing!
Sounds like awesome shows are on the line for US fans. Best of luck and safe travel throughout the tour for you and the gang.
I always wondered what it feels like to be part of a circus show on the road... Wouldnt that be GREAT on your CV of life's achievement?! Hey, any spot on that green bus of yours for a travel organiser / coffee lady / costume shopper / guitar carrier / phone answerer / general fetcher of things???
I am absolutely thrilled to seeing you, bushwalla, and the makepeace bros for this tour! I'm glad that you're sending messages of love through your music and writings. I've learned alot about important issues from you, not just on politics but also on life in general. you make an awesome role model.
but i do have to disagree with you on one thing. its true this budget cut will be devastating for many schools in California, especially ones that don't have much money in the first place. Being it as almost the end of my high school career, and for going to 5 different middle and high schools in the past, I've noticed alot of questionable remarks in the "anti-budget cut" protests. First off, I know that classroom size and the number of teachers matter alot for the educational well-being of students, but the teachers' ability to teach is an issue that isn't tackled much, except by students themselves. The seniority program is what's really hurting students; teachers who have been teaching longer have less chance of getting fired, no matter how badly he/she teaches. I've had many teachers who just waste time every day but never get in trouble because they've been at the school since the 1970s. It's absolutely unfair.
Also, government funding means many schools spend carelessly and waste alot of money on useless things. I always notice teachers photocopying hundreds of paper to be used for one day and then thrown away, without even recycling it. The two high schools in my district have been remodeling and built new complexes; one has big flat screen tvs in each new classroom. Is that really nessesary?
Also, a really horrible teacher was fired recently and was transfered to my neighbooring school, to work as a librarian's assistant! He still gets the same paycheck and all he does is stack books.
While all this money is being wasted, my school is sending emails to parents imploring them to give donations to "save the school". I think the districts need to work harder to stop wasting money. I still think the budget cuts will bring negative effects at the beginning, but hopefully it will give incentive on reshaping the teacher's union and the district.
I'm saying all this from my own experiences at the schools i've been to. I might think completely differently if I went to other schools. But it just shows that the budget cut should be worked with, not rejected entirely.
Dr. Mr. Mraz,
I just realized- YOU ARE MY SPIRIT GUIDE...
as odd and lame as that sounds, I believe it to be true, a man and woman told me so ...
buenas noches,
-PJ
p.s. this world is one crazy dream.
Jason,
It's appauling what's happening to your schools! Here in NE, we have an issue with who gets to go to what school...I.e. should inner city kids be allowed to attend schools in upper class neighborhoods and of course the fight is always over money. Meaning that We pay higher property taxes which go to fund our schools and we chose that when we moved here so our kids could have the benefit. It's a shame that the education system is funded in such a way that all kids are offerred an equal opportunity regardless of where they live, i.e the schools are equally funded or subsidized. I'm not sure of the answer to that but I believe it's tragic especially for those parents who are trying to offer there children better than what they had or currently have. I think that education should be the hope that helps you see outside your current situation. That being said, Parents must play a huge part in their child's education as well both in and out of the classroom. Parent volunteers become heroes in their own right. Parents have to be there to help there kids in the home as well and help them develope the respect for their own education. My son is in Third grade and goes to a really good school and as much as we try to encourage him and educate him about the importance of education, he could care less about going to school and feels like it's a waste of time. Something must be broke in the school! Anyway, wonder what Barack plans to do about it!
I must say, while the nifty electrical tape only adds to your ever increasing sex appeal I am completely heart broken and almost cried that you aren't coming to Nebraska. So, please tell me there are more dates to come! If you get around Omaha, there is a little outdoor amphetheater in Papillion, Ne at the mall on 370 and 72nd street and they have a friday night concert series in the summer that is perfect for your travelling love fest. Please come! Please Please Please
Blessings,
Millie
I can't believe you're not bringing this show to tne northwest.
Toca, you're fired!
B
what about the beautiful pacific northwest?
Why's everybody always forget about Seattle.
You know we would welcome you with open arms.
<3
i'll see you and your gang of merry-makers in 3 weeks in atlanta. i've promised my comrads to try not to end up in the hospital afterwards this time.
Thank you for including the Makepeace Brothers song and video on Education. As a future educator, I am deeply saddened by the lack of faith in the public school system, especially in Illinois. I am involved with a tutoring program at my University and loved the video. I plan on passing it on to the directors of the program to see if we can either use the video or at least incorporate the beautiful song by the Makepeace Brothers.
Thank you Jason!
okay, i know you can't be everywhere at once so i will just look forward to seeing you in the future when you do some back to colorado. it's not like i haven't already seen you live 3 times anyway. i will consider myself blessed for that much.
~congrats on the environmentally friendly tour bus and what not...peace~
one serious thought, one not so serious...it's absolutely horrific the state of education in this country and what an absolute lack of importance it takes in politicians' minds..
and to the very not serious..that black tape mustache is also sealing that mouth shut!
You are building my anticipation...Can't wait for my road trip to Atlanta.
As a high school teacher, I have to say that the amount that needs to be fixed in education is overwhelming. My favorite place to start is with teacher pay of course. ha ha. I sat down and figured out what I actually made per hour once, including nights and weekends of grading and preparing. Even with my sanity- regaining summer, it was truly pathetic and embarrassing for our society. Now don't get me wrong, money is not my everything, but teachers are not making enough without a spouse to stay above poverty level. Thank goodness for the intrinsic rewards of teaching which are many and great. I'm changing lives. I'm changing lives. I'm changing lives. (I have to say that over and over again in my head sometimes.)
Night,
Jill
your show concept is very innovative and creative... I like it a lot, so keep it up! I'm highly pleased about new quaint photos and messages...very interessting

JASON MRAZ IS THE BEST EVER. period.

niiiice. i heart a good collaboration. this is like the second sailing of jason and the argonauts. good luck with the prestidigitation and the merry-making. and the peace-making. and the pulling of eggs from behind ears. and sawing toca in half (please leave that one to the professionals, we all like him too much).
It will be a treat, for sure.
See ya. Cole
I just got back from you San Francisco show and all I can say is wow! It was absolutely amazing! The before, middle and after! I was standing outside in line when you did your sidewalk show and you stopped right by me to jam with a guy in line. I loved it! That is what a concert should be! Thank you!
I want to know how long you can do THIS: Problemproblem...
I can't get it any further :.)
I LOVED your magician disguise last Friday in Santa Cruz! Tres sexy! You were the peanut butter to Bushwalla's jelly :)
Thank you and all the guys a for making my life better the moment I walked into the Catalyst's doors. You all have a wonderfull power over me to look at the positive and motivate me to get out there and DO SOMETHING!
Much love!
Dammit Jason. You did it again! Heard about your last jaunt to the U of K too late to (afford to) bid on tickets to the iTunes thingy. Now you're sneaking into the Clapton concert, which we would go to but Hyde Park is too huge.
ARE YOU GOING TO PLAY ANY SOLO GIGS IN LONDON??!?!?!!!
Man, if you just wanna do the busking thing I can show you all the best street corners :-) I'll bring the tea, you bring yourself (and possibly some biscuits).
Jeez... and you've put out a new album, too!?! Have to check it out!
oh gosh. the kids in that video are so freaking cute!
In East Texas, most of the teaching positions are being taken by coaches because they're required to teach a non-athletic class, leaving children to watch movies instead of learning.
Also, almost all of our funding goes to the athletic depts instead of our science depts. Science teacher are left with barely enough funding to buy graph paper. Who can keep their passion for teaching (and learning) alive in that environment?
Come to Texas sometime! We'd love to have you! :)
