They're Yours.

The songs; Take them. Share them. Own them. Make love to them. Cook to them. Eat with them. Buckle them up in the car and blast them during your busy city commute. Sleep with them on in the background. Send them to your dreams’ ideal setting. Maybe steal a little of me for those moments. I love traveling. With the songs’ new life I’ll imagine myself being spread around like a good flu.

I’ve said it in a million interviews already. The songs don’t belong to me. They are bigger than I’ll ever be and they will certainly live a lot longer than I will. That’s why this album is less about me and more life in general. It’s an album about awesome times, celebrated by real people, sexy people, and waking up to smell their sweet sweat still lingering in the air.

Someone once passed me a stack of books and said enjoy. And when you are done, pass them on for they do not belong to you. They belong to the world. And that is what I am doing with these songs. They are of the world and for the world.

Even the personal songs about my family and factual love stories, I will not take credit for writing them. It is my duty to simply sit and listen to a frequency that anyone can hear; A station perhaps from space, commercial free, broadcast in the clouds. I don’t ask. I sing-a-long to that station nonetheless, and happen to record the phrases and melodies from time to time, and still they are not my own. Maybe I am a receiver, but just an instrument in that sense. My body is just hardware. Some other wonderful force is playing the song.

Whatever “being” is to the human. Whatever air is to the bird, or what water is to the fish. Whatever force decides to make our hearts beat and food digest. That mad divine scientist is who is responsible for these songs. They are a gift for all of us.

And so I am grateful and so I project and we share the sweetness.

I’m glad you are listening too. Enjoy the new album.

keep the channel open. for all y'all, one of my favorite quotes:

"There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. If you block it, it will never exist through any other medium. It will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable it is, nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the Channel open. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive."
- Martha Graham to Agnes De Mille

i've cried to your songs, i've sang them, i've flown them across the ocean and back, i've made love to them, i've shared them, i've danced to them, i've slept to them, gotten thru some hard times with them, and loved every one of them. Its an amazing gift you're giving to the world. And i thank you.

I have had the best day today... and there was nothing very special about it except this big old box in the mail and a great perspective of the world. I want to thank you a hundred times for all you've shown to me through your voice, writing, and actions. I don't know where or who I would be if you hadn't worked your way to my ears and my heart.
If you'll excuse me- I have to go take the rest of this day and make it mine. : P <333

aaaahhhhhhh!!!!! i just downloaded the cd...i got to hear a lot of it today at work though. my boss, who's also crazy about you, downloaded it on her iphone this morning and blasted it from her office most of the day. dynamo of volition is my new favorite song....it makes me feel like i need rollerskates and a disco ball. ah, i didn't think it was possible to adore you any more than i already did....wow!

and thanks for the permission to spread the music. since i discovered your yummy goodness years ago i've taken it upon myself to spread the gospel of mraz and sometimes that means a burned cd or two. i figure it results in larger record sales next time after they're hooked. and you know it always works.

I love the idea of music travelling like that. My friends call me the music freak because I'm always pointing out new songs and artists to them.

By the way, have you heard of bookcrossing? (just put .com after it and you get the website). They have lot of places where you can leave books you've read and pick up new ones, and each book has a bar code so you can track its travels.

Is your album out in the Netherlands too? I have to check that...

j-man, one thing that amazes me about you is that you have a phenomenal memory. thanks for understanding the message of those books when i gave them to you all that time ago.

Are you trying to say you're a tool?

:D haha

You get an A for AWESOME on this CD. Coyotes is my favorite because it has multiple interpretations - a song of unrequited lust, or from the opposite viewpoint, a song about celebrity, hunted by the populace. Just to name two. Only Human - Wow. Fantastic musical leaps and bounds. I can't sit still, even in the car, when listening to the danceable tunes, and the softer ones lead me into sweet dreams at night. Can't wait to receive the hard copies in the mail. I hear there's a video that should be entertaining.

What am I grateful for?

YOU, and everyone that helps you bring that frequency to the rest of us. Thank you. Seriously.

First, thoroughly loving the new album. I cleaned my entire apartment to it yesterday, it gave me some great motivational energy.

Second, this quote here: "Someone once passed me a stack of books and said enjoy. And when you are done, pass them on for they do not belong to you. They belong to the world." reminded me of a website you might enjoy. It's called BookCrossing and the idea is to put a label in the book with a number you've obtained from the website, then you leave the book somewhere - a park bench, a subway station - and then hopefully whoever picks it up will read the label, go to the website, and indicate that they found your book, then you can see where it has traveled. With all your travels, I'm sure you'd find lots of great places to release books "into the wild" as they say on the site. You can either buy their pre-made labels or print them out using those standard Avery labels you can get at any office store. They also sell other supplies such as waterproof bags to keep the book safe and dry if you're going to leave it outside somewhere.

Wow, amazing lyric that really touched me:

If it's a broken arm then brace it
If it's a broken heart then face it

Once again, Mraz saves the day. You're the coolest, man.

Hi Jason,

They are fantastic songs, indeed. I love “I´m yours” (me and the world I guess:)). “Live high” the way it is on your Myspace (with the chorus) is fantastic, even though I can´t get the lyrics very well on that paragraph that starts on “try to picture the man” and the following paragraph that ends on “practicing their living for you”. I can understand the words, but I can´t get the meaning I guess. It´s a bit messy for me. Anyway, another great one is “After an afternoon” (I know this one is not in the new album, but it´s so tender that I consider it worth mentioning). And that one with Colbie Caillat: “Lucky”. What a wonderful song! I absolutely love the melody, the lyrics, everything! It´s very beautiful!:)

One of your “old” tunes that I listen a lot is “0% interest”. I always try singing along with the song, but it works as a tongue-twister for me. Someday I hope It´ll sound like a song in my voice.:)
About the “sweet sweat lingering in the air”, man...I really didn´t picture it as a very pleasant situation. lol:D
You are a fantastic singer and a very sweet person.
:):*
Pri.

I just want you to know that "Details in the Fabric" is the song that gave me a total wake-up call about my recent dwelling over a bout of a heartbreak. Gotta move on. Now.

I learned to play it today on guitar and then looked up the entire song's lyrics. So much better after seeing it all there on the screen and not just hearing it.

in.m.mazur@gmail.comJason, music has always spoken to me. The lyrics. The melodies. The sound.

In the past it was a song here or a song there. A piece of a song, a line. Nothing comprehensive.

With this new album, I am tounched ny every sang on the album. The ENTIRE album speaks to me at a level that none have ever done before.

Thank you for openning yourself up and sharing it with us. Please know that your are never alone. Others are always going thru the same things with you.

I actually swim to them.

I have a waterproof iPod case and headphones to go with it. I swim laps in my pool to the cadence of "Only Human", and speed up when "Dynamo of Voalition" plays.

My challenge to myself is to be able to swim the butterfly stroke for the entire length of the song "Butterfly"-- which is no small feat, considering the song's length.

Let's just be thankful that my pool does not resemble an ocean of diarrhea. . .

The fact that you don't let fame go to your head makes the music infinitely more meaningful.

I can feel that self actualization hitting my ears and shaking my frame every time I listen. It's a powerful indescribable feeling that just couldn't be there otherwise. Music like that changes lives, including mine.

You could have stopped with "shine the light on all of your friends," but you continue to share the extra-dimensional goodness.

Thanks Jason.

The first time I ever heard your music, was about 4-5 years ago and I was surfing in Tofino, BC and resting my tired bones from being rocked by the waves....

The first song I ever heard and still rings to be my favorite was a coffee shop version of Halfway Home.

Saw you perform once in an intimate setting at Brockton Bowl in Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC

I've been addicted to your music since. Hoping you'll stick to smaller venues, (although not possible I'm sure)

Now I've discovered your Blog, thanks to the girl who updates your Twitter. :)
