Easy Being Green

To some, breakfast is just a Poptart. That’s a plastic food product and an American English term for Danish. To the Danish people, a Danish is called Vienerbrod, which actually translates into Bread from Vienna, a city in an entirely different country. In France they call it a croissant, also known as coffee and a cigarette. While an English breakfast consist of baked beans and blood sausage or is sometimes just a tea referred to as English Breakfast. The guys in our crew think breakfast comes in a Red Bull can. But then again, some people eat nothing at all. and I marvel at this.

When you wake up, you have an extraordinary opportunity to put something powerful inside of you that will energize, nourish and sustain your being for the whole day. Ordinary breakfasts don’t usually cut it. The body spends an exhausting amount of time digesting the food you eat in search of nutrients, but by the time the top coating of sugar has faded from your blood flow you’re fast asleep at your desk. I can attest from years of snoozing thru first and second period in high school and college.

Therefore, I would like to take this time to formally apologize to Ms. Lohr. My failing was caused not by you or your boring algebra course after all. It was indeed the Frosted Flakes. For this, Tony and I are very sorry.

Come to think of it, I slept thru many jobs once I got out of high school. When I worked for my dad on construction sites I would slip into the cab of the truck for a siesta. When I managed a tobacco store, I made sure the door had clanging bells that would alarm me whenever a customer came in. When I was a stock clerk at the craft store there were more than enough cardboard boxes for me to build my own private hideaway, Fort Slumber.

For years I thought I was just naturally tired, lazy, and/or disinterested in working. But I’ve proven that case wrong over the past 17 months playing and promoting the current album, We Sing We Dance We Steal Things (still available far and wide btw!)

The secret to a great day is how you start your day. And for the past year and a half I’ve avoided eating a heavy traditional breakfast. Instead, I merrily jumpstart my day with the ever-so-awesome Vitamineral Green from Healthforce Nutritionals.

One heaping scoop of this stuff in the morning provides an insane amount of goodness for the body. The powdered greens (from dehydrated plants and algae among other things) taken by itself is enough to live on. It goes straight to the blood and straight to the brain and stays with you all day. I stir mine every morning with ONE-Brand Coconut Water, but I prefer to blend it also with some Flax Oil, Freelife Goji Juice, Avocados, Maca Spice (the Peruvian Viagra) and a few dates. I even do Cayenne pepper on mornings that I want something savory. The flavor options are unlimited and there’s no way you can overdose on the stuff.

Award winning Author and Marathon Runner Haruki Murakami writes, “…(a) condition for being a gentleman would be keeping quiet about what you do to stay healthy. A gentleman shouldn’t go on and on about what he does to stay fit.”

But I’m no gentleman and I practice unconditional love, which is why I don't mind mentioning it. Perhaps Vitamineral Green can simplify your morning and amplify your days as it has mine. I constantly face the challenges of appearing in new time zones, performing late shows followed by early morning flights and repeat workdays, trying on new languages and meeting all kinds of new people that I care to be present for. Traditional breakfast doesn’t help me rise to the occasion. The delicious green shakes do.

Think about it for a second, would you rather start your day with something fattening and/or sugary that ends up around your waist or deep in your ass, or would you rather feel light and energized with a glow that people can recognize? Remember, you are what you eat.

This is not an advertisement. It’s just a friendly traveler’s tip about health and vitality. And if I can still be enjoying it on the road, you and your loved ones will certainly enjoy its benefits in your own home.

Click here for more information and order some today!

Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much for not being a gentleman and sharing this! ;) I've been trying to find ways to feel more energized throughout the day, even with lack of sleep. I know exactly what you mean about sleeping through the early morning and waking up in different time zones, trying to appear coherent and alive, somnambulating through airports, desperately resolving to avoid caffeine but failing miserably with all the coffee shops' wafting smells beckoning. I will try to find the ingredients in the Health Food store here in Manila. I tried Green Lightning powder before and I hated it, and threw the rest out. Maybe your recipe will make me change my mind.
Speaking of breakfasts...
I absolutely loooved the blood sausages I had in Egham, but my American colleagues wouldn't touch it when we were there. If you haven't tried yet, I recommend the aloo pratha in Chennai, the fresh spring rolls in Ho Chi Minh, two of my other all-time vegetarian favorites.
Thanks for your blog. It's nice to read about someone who has been to so many places as well. You are a beautiful person, both inside and out. I hope you live forever!

Amen to your post brother! I wish I had paid more attention to the reactions certain foods cause sooner, from sleepiness to itchiness to acne to depression.

To anyone who goes out to eat regularly in the US: you are eating three times the amount of food your body needs! Minimum. Even if you order a salad, you're probably overeating.

What I'd like to read more about, though, is the effect megadoses of anything might have on your body. Your organs still have to process it all...

Even so, anyone who keeps a schedule like yours has to be doing something right. Personally, I think it's all of the oxygen you take in when you sing, so maybe you should give two concerts a day instead of just one!

And what was that you said? The Danish eat "vieners" for breakfast?

Here's to your health.

Hehe, I drink Alkavision's Green Shield! (and a liquid 'green' vitamin, and a couple multi-vitamins, and desiccated liver) Have you noticed your hair and nails growing faster (and stronger)? :)
I wish I was as healthy in lifestyle as you are, though, I take so many vitamins because I KNOW that I'm not getting enough nutrition from my diet... but at least my fruit and veggie intake has increased dramatically these past few months. And once our avocados start ripening, well, I might just become avocadivorous!

Also, as a little 'ps'... you're a lucky dog for being able to sleep during the day! It's almost impossible for me to sleep while the sun is awake.

I'm kind of partial to the whole eating thing, even if it goes deep into my ass. There's nothing like the Portuguese food (that you can be certain of) and I do love eating. :) Although I haven't eaten meat for 8 years, everything else goes.

Still, you're right. An energizing breakfast is the way to go, so thank you for the tip. Keep on sharing. :)

Perfect. I've actually been looking for something like this - I usually stick with fruit and yogurt in the mornings, but find myself drained and starved by lunch time (even though it is technically a late lunch). Once my next paycheck rolls in, I'm definitely ordering some of this stuff.

Thanks for the wonderful suggestion! I'm going to have to invest in some coconut water, too!

Now that you mention it, maybe I'll try this green stuff. I know you're right, and it's about time I did better, especially as a singer. We should all pay more attention to everything we put into our bodies. From the foods that we eat, to the quality of the water we drink,to the items that attract the attention of the border patrol.

I've been looking for something to improve my energy level and overall quality of life, but every time I see the rows and rows of products(each one claiming to be better than the rest), it's overwhelming.

After going to the website and reading the ingredients, this sounds like the complete package. For everything it has, it's well worth the price ... and I'm as frugal as they get!

I understood your comment about not advertising this product to mean that you were not getting PAID to promote it, but wanted to share this information with your fans, because of the benefits you have experienced from using it.

By the way, according to Webster's Dictionary a "gentleman" is a man of good family and social standing; a courteous, gracious and honorable man.

It is the most energizing supplement everyday...But, i believe each of us has it's own ideas of what is good for our own body..and I solely respect that..

Hey Jason.
I read your whole blog from 1977 to now and Jason - it's wonderful.
Your blog is better than every book I know, better than "The Alchimist" and so on. Just because it's you who wrote this blog and your feelings, your thoughts and there's no imagination. And that's what I cannot believe, there are so many things in your blog where I only napped 5 minutes long.
My dream is to be like you, because you've got so many power, so many inspiration. I wanna make music too, with the guitar or the piano or with both. I wanna sing all my experiences and scream it out into the world, where other people hear it and think about it. Music was my life when I was young and I think it'll be ever my life.
Jason, be proud of you and make it yours. Go your way and I hope I'll see you in Germany.
I never saw you in real. And now I'm regretting it. Damn, I wished I could turn back time and see you times and times again, and again, and again. I would go to every concert in my near! But now it's too late. I don't mind, I think, I'm gonna see you.

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
You know?
Everything is fine. Not finAL.

In Joy,

Have you tried Mate de coca or Una de gato infusions??? Go for it, go for it, go for it...

I love my peruvian food, what can i say! I had the yummiest and biggest avocados EVER for breakfast...hmmm

My boss and i tried to impose a healthier breakfast in our office by bringing fruit, dark bread, vegs (avocados and cucumber)and fruit infusions to avoid that our trainees have their cookies for breakfast and then have a sugar drop that makes them super tired by mid morning obliging them to buy a coke and drink it for sugar...we gave them this speech about having healthier foods that will keep their sugar levels steady blah blah...but it didnt really stick in i think!

It is worth trying though, because it gives them something to think about just like your post did.

I admire you for that :)

But it's not only the excess sugar that got me, it was the excess fat in the fried eggs-n-bacon, homemade biscuits and grits slathered in butter that my Southern mama made for us every morning (cereal was for Saturday morning cartoons in the 70's :P)

Now I go for "superfoods" au naturale on a low-fat, raw vegan diet recommended by VegSource's Raw Food and Sports Nutrition guru and trainer to world-class athletes, Dr. Doug Graham (author of "The 80/10/10 Diet," foodnsport dot com.)

Fresh, ripe, whole, raw, and preferably organic fruits & veggies with nuts & seeds on the side, and you've got the original fast food/pick-me-up!!

Cheers ~

Jason! Thank you SO MUCH for being a spokesperson for good health! As someone who suffered from Stress-Induced Gastritis by the age of 21, I spent hundreds of dollars going to doctors, getting prescriptions, and nothing helped. Finally, I turned to yoga, journal writing, internal reflection, and a vegetarian diet rich in greens and raw foods. I can say that I feel 100% better (emotionally AND physically)and 60 pounds lighter!! Now I am an aspiring nutritionist and yoga instructor.

I love, love, love that you are speaking out about your healthy lifestyle! I hope you can influence how your fans begin to view what they eat, and the ideal that your body IS your temple!

Keep writing, singing, bloggin, and inspiring!

If you haven't already, I highly recommend the documentary Food, Inc. It is absolutely wonderful and shows how we, as the American consumers, can make healthier decisions which will in turn impact the freshness and safety of our food. Please promote!

Is it true that you are vegan? I read it on so many sites, and this kinda hints at it.
I am vegan for almost a year, but i was vegetarian since I was 12.

I'm very excited to try this! I love breakfast, and I love fuelling my body with energy that allows me to study in the afternoon instead of crash! Currently, my breakfasts are fairly balanced but the only green I see is green tea!

One thing to point out though: When trying a new product carefully reading the ingredient list is a must! Also, starting with a small amount to test how your body responds is wise; you may find yourself allergic to something surprising

Thanks for sharing!
Much love
