— Elizabeth Gilbert

I’ve never been lucky enough to find a four-leaf clover. I’ve been gifted plenty, but I never found one on my own accord down on my hands and knees. Then again, I’ve never committed to a long look. But I will admit that in all my years in this child body, whenever I found myself stooped in the grass, fingering between blades of green and those greener, I always hoped that that day’s first charmed discovery would be made by me.
In all of life, failure in the finding never got me down. The upset shows itself as a sign that that my luck would show up as something different, and perhaps a much larger version of itself. So, there was rarely a need to squander a precious moment and/or add a rare and mutant flower to the vision board.
I apply the same theory to never winning the lottery. I know I’m not supposed to get my millions for free. For this I am always eager to earn it.
There were plenty of jobs where I wasn’t hired, many of them in music and theatre. Rejection left me bouncing off of so many NO’s that I learned to be encouraged by the defeats. I found I had more talents to cultivate, more songs to write, more moxie to move. I was always complete in knowing I was moving in the right direction.

Yesterday I sprawled across an infinite patch of tropical clover on a near deserted stretch of one of Maui’s sacred shores, basking in a pink grapefruit sunrise. I warmed and awakened every sense and chakra taking sips of the new day, gulps of air and gasps of soul soothing ginger as tea. In my mind I harmonized with the crow of the cock and purred along with the hush and shush of the swaying palms in a Pakalani filled paradise. I pulled wild hairs from my eyes and allowed my body to dry itself of the sweat fostered a few minutes before in the steamy pre-dawn sauna.
Naked, I acknowledged the elements for granting me such a blessed life. With nothing to offer the world in that moment, my naked newborn self offered up love, laughter, and gratitude. From far out to sea, God, on a cruise ship perhaps, sighed as if to say “well done” and returned the love and gratitude in a breeze, and, on my behalf, cleverly kept the world as it is.
My gaze turned to the clover and I quietly remarked at how it wasn’t the traditional Irish Shamrock I usually familiar my eyes with. This tropical ground cover was so expansive you might miss it over its normalcy. Yet, what I noticed was how each and every little stem had only two pairs of pedals popping out of the sprout. The deeper I looked through the filter of appreciation, the more I realized I wasn’t just sitting on a grassy knoll, but resting rather, almost retired in the enlightenment, enveloped on a prairie in perfect company among thousands of 4-leaf clovers.
Luck is all around me.
Love is all there is.
May every situation be summed up in a smile.
-Jason

Agh! This is what I needed today. Even through all of lifes crap I can find luck. Amazing message Jason! :o)
Thank you...
...for this and for everyhing that you have shared with the world.
Im so glad to read of you... I greatly missed wet wedensday last week...I am so glad you are enjoying some much needed rest(im sure)...all of you guys! Your all great and widely loved and appreciated....
Why are you torturing that poor cat!!!...
I thought four-leaf clover, the kind Bugs Bunny sings about, was a myth.
Then, desperately trying to accomplish all my nephew had hoped to do while he was visiting me in California, we stopped at Julia Pfeiffer National Park (I think that's what it's called, if memory serves; it usually doesn't) to see the redwoods. (Go to "NPR Fresh Air" to listen to an interesting story on musicians that you can use as ammunition for your advocacy for the arts, and another one on Jack Kerouac's "Big Sur.")
Anyway, we took a short hike and we saw a few redwoods, but he seemed disappointed. I realize now that he probably just had the standard teenager-look about him, but I didn't recognize it since I don't have any teenagers of my own.
When we were on our way back to the car, he bent to pick something up and turned to show it to me, quietly, dryly, but there was a light in his eye. He had found a four-leaf clover.
I think that is as happy as I saw him the whole trip, and I took that boy EVERYWHERE!
Anyway, you didn't have to go all the way to Hawaii and stand in a patch of four-leaf clover to realize that you're a lucky guy, did you?
And leave that poor cat alone.
you're such a hippie. i love it.
Hawaii is my "energy place," and I was missing it today. Thank you for laying in the clovers for all of us stressed out mainlanders. :)

God bless you, Jason Mraz.
It's good to hear you are finding peace in Maui. You deserve it after those 18 (19?) months on tour.
Thank you for everything you have done for so many people. I am forever grateful of you.

May God continue to bless you 1000 times more for posting this quote today. The Universe always provides.
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of his hand.
May God be with you and bless you:
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings.
May you know nothing but happiness
From this day forward.
May the road rise up to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the warm rays of sun fall upon your home
And may the hand of a friend always be near.
May green be the grass you walk on,
May blue be the skies above you,
May pure be the joys that surround you,
May true be the hearts that love you.
In gratitude,
Laura
I always appreciate your posts, as there is always some sort of synchronicity between the going on's of our lives. I just finished my first KINDNESS BLOG interview. It was with Melissa Joseph, the owner of Baxter the Therapy Dog. Sadly, Baxter passed a few days ago, in the midst of setting up for the interview. Things are inevitable, life and death, joy and sorrow, and we must roll with the punches. Check out the interview if you get a minute. Keep spreading the kindness, Namaste :) www.coleskindsouls.blogspot.com
always inspiring!!!
As much as I'd like to leave you with something as profound as you leave me in your messages, all I can say is a simple thank you. And the picture with you and the kitty absolutely melted me. :)
Whoa, glad to see you are finally getting some good R&R! That's a cool story about the clover. I haven't found one yet, either. You give me renewed hope! :-D Sweet pic of you and kitty, awwww he/she looks quite happy!
*hugs* and one for kitty too
You've just proven, once again, that you're my soul mate. Well said.
Thank you for this blog. You inspire me with your music, your voice, and now your words. And I'm really bummed I didn't run into you in Maui before we left yesterday. :-( Enjoy the beach and the clovers.
When I was a little kid I used to look through the fields in my backyard, trying to find a four leaf clover. I never found one of course.
What I ended up doing was taking a regular clover and picking a leaf from another and attaching it to the clover with tape or glue or what not.
I guess this is what I'd like to call, making your own luck. You're right. It is all around you. And sometimes you just have to create it your self.
just outside my bedroom window at the house i grew up in grew a clover that had heaps of four leaved clover leaves... i thought i was sooo lucky to have this growing outside my window... but as an adult i'd probably just go meh! no big deal. childhood is magical. damn growing up!
Love is all there is. And if one can always see the love in everything, luck is sure to follow. And just as I'm writing this, "Could you be love" came on the radio.
:-)
I've always found Maui to be a very special zen place
Peace & Love Always,
Gigi
p.s. I wish to find the love in my illness today. My head's spinning like I'm inside a disco ball. Time to go lie down and rest.
Simply beautiful...

wish i could see a real four-leaf clover!
I'm lucky to come back again. I miss you ~miss you ~miss you ~~all the time ~~~小槑子想你!
Hey J,
It's mesmerizing how easily one connects with every atom existing, if only one tries.
Hope you find that buzz even in the middle of a cacophonic city street(if you haven't already).
:) It would be an absolutely stunning experience

luck is sometime unfair. ;P
luck is always around you, but sometime you push it away.
anyhow, love that cat ... just simply adore it
Thank you for love. I am sure I speak for everyone when I say we missed your words. It is four o clock in the morning and I am getting ready to go to work. You made me smile for the day so now I can go make others smile. Be true Be you. Spread the Love
Beautifully said as always! I really was quite enraptured by your words. They're so encouraging, and they couldn't be more true. Definately something that must always be remembered. Many, many thanks!
I'm so glad that you are enjoying some you-time.
The pictures are beautiful!! I'm not sure who is more precious -- you or the kitty. I want to squeeze you both. :)
thank you and enjoy!!!
XOXOXO
<3 i love all the nature you described. thank you <3
Funny... I just found this morning a four- leaf clover!!! lucky me...
I'm grateful for people like Gigi who, for one reason or another, don't feel well and still have the energy to do nice things for others.
Love.
It seems that whatever it is that we are looking for-- be it luck, love, lost keys-- they magically appear when we stop looking.
A beautiful reminder...
Absolutely beautiful.
My cat is a lot like that one, and does the exact same blissfull face when I hold her up scratching her wherever I can manage.
=)
Your wee cat is so cute! I wrote my latest blog entitled Love Is All Around Me...so I totally understand what you mean...
I'm one of the only people I know who doesn't buy a lottery ticket because I too don't think I'm meant to have millions (even though it would be a MASSIVE help) I want to earn money doing something that I love, its what my soul tells me is right. I'm yet to find what that living is. Its lovely to see someone like you being so humble about your success. For a long time I thought of you as being totally untouchable and out of reach and after months of reading your blogs, I honestly just feel like your one of my friends that I just haven't met yet :-)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, words, actions...
From one human to another,
peace & love

Deep thoughts by Mraz. I get this feeling your next album may be super instense for you? You have a lot of reflection going on, but you are also respecting the here and now and why you are where you are. Peace my brother.
By the way, totally looks like you are doing some crazy chiropractic stuff on that cat. If I did that to one of my cats it would bitch slap me.
You are really something you know. I think everybody would agree with me. This lifetime is worth living when there are more people like you, who cares, who appreciates, who is grateful, not only what the eyes could see around, but to knowing the importance of being human and the truths about living.

You are lucky
You have a gift to share
You have known love beyond compare
A life, meaningful
An advocacy so powerful.

Glow. Your words radiate. Wish that we had all been in that field of clover living in the moment with you, but then again as we are all connected in life, I suppose we were. (Just wish it had been in person.) As always, you leave me inspired and in awe. Thank you for the person you promote.
Been immersed in your music non-stop for almost a month now, by edict of my 2-year-old. He has run the gamut of favorites on We Sing. We Dance., finally branched out to try Mr. A-Z, with this week's favorite being Geek in the Pink. (Must be on the 92nd listening, and Mommy/Son dance all over the freakin' living room!) He absolutely idolizes you. As a mother of this earth, I cannot imagine a better role model for him to idolize. I am thrilled that he has chosen an artist, with exceptional talent, who also is grounded in the importance of living life, and caring for the world that breathes for us all.
What you offer us is so precious and unique...thank you for always baring your soul for the benefit of all who will listen.
May much love, luck, and friendship be yours.
Love that cat! She (or he) looks like my tortie Chai.
Jason,
Somehow your words always come at the right time and are the very thing I need to hear to center myself.
It's what I love about your music, and what I love about your blog.
I so needed to hear your thoughts on rejection and failures today, and the reminder that love is all there truly is resonates inside me.
I wish you all the four leaf clovers your heart could ever hold :)
your words pluck the deepest of my heartstrings. thank you for inspiring us today.

Thanks for this, really. I'm not tired of saying that you are my inspiration EVERY SINGLE DAY! I'm happy I still have at least more 8 years of Jason Mraz! haha, thanks Jason.
Tons of Love,
Maria
Sometimes it's only in light of a chink
You realise the darkness you were sitting in
Not just a blink or meditation
And I won't say Inspiration
because that's the commodity
of t-vangelists and Idols
This belongs to me
And Gratitude's a cafe
- can I offer a soy latte? -
I can't leave it all on your doorstep anyway
your voice is one in many, it's just
I only heard it today
And it was enough to make me think,
in fact, to feel, something could stick
to this Teflon soul, and maybe
I'd retract this scorpion whip
give back
and conclude there never was a lack
that I can't fill
So yes, I'm grateful for your crack ing
light on a day
that happens
to be mine
Or yours
Or anyone else's who's open to offers.
Ta. x
What a pretty post...you have a wonderful way with words. I am glad you got some much needed R&R time.
Asante Sana

Hey, Mr. Mraz :)
There's a big smile on my face now that I've read this... And I so needed that.
So, thank you. :)
Greetings.
1:10,000. Jason, those are some pretty amazing odds. And not in a gross way, but I admire you for being able to lay nude in your own backyard, or anywhere outside for that matter. That would never be me. I could go so far as a skimpy two piece (but only if I were in super tip top shape) then I'd have to call it quits. I've always been that way, probably won't change much.
I can see just from knowing you this short while, how much of a poetic heart you actually have. And for that, you have been truly rewarded. Better than winning the Powerball if you ask me. Sweet fella you are.
beautiful! love and luck and smiling and nakedness and four leaf clovers...life is what you make it!
aaaaaaaand your kitty is cute! :)
Wow, that looks like one very content little kitty. I’d be purring too, if you were holding me like that! Ha, ha!
I don’t believe in "luck" (the rabbit's foot didn't prove to be so lucky for the rabbit, did it?) I believe you arrive where you are, partly because of the choices you make, and I believe in blessings, fate, and perseverance. As you said initially . . . you were "never not" going to be there in that place.
I think that when you acknowledged God and gave thanks, He showed you that you were standing in a field of four leaf clovers to let you know that your life is blessed abundantly, in more ways than you can count!
Thank you, for sharing that moment with all of us.
P.S. I really missed you this week! Glad you are back.
where i live winter comes... hate that... it`s cold. your words remind me of sun + sea. put it in my heart.
I loved cat's photo and the table is cute :-) I ♥ the way you write so charismatic and honest!
I ♥JASON♥ TQM!!
I KNOW that woman over on MS did not just abuse the muse who has paid his dues...no, no, no...breathe, girl, breathe, just meditate on your little cerulean blue tile...ha. I'm sending her some love!
Being a cat lover with four of them all over the house, i can recognize a happy and relaxed cat, and that's the one on your photos.... You are truly blessed, you don't write words or sentences, your gift gives you the ability to write songs, all the time! Anything you write could be sung to! It's a rare gift. How many of us would love to write but nothing comes out harmoniously! With you it just comes out naturally. Unbelievable! Thank you for putting your gift to such good use, sharing it with the world. I'm grateful we have people like you on this wonderful planet of ours, you know! the only one with chocolate!!!!
YIKES! Maybe I should have kept that comment to myself. Sometimes one negative thought can out live 100 positive ones...but my little brother is NYC busting his ass to make his way in the world he envisions for himself. When that world gels, I'll be there for him. So, I was just practicing. :)
The odds are: You have 1:10,000 or .01% chance of finding a four leaf clover.
When someone has a small child, it's amazing how and why the way life is viewed, changes. It's a lot of fun.
Thanks for yet another beautifully written post. It's what I look forward to in my long and arduous day...full of stress. Thank you. Love you so much, Sasha B.
PS. That last picture is wonderful. Love it. <3
did you bring your cat to maui?
You have to love the pure contentment oozing out of the kitty. Cats are awesome and so are you!
Dear Lovable Farmer,
the cat, the heart shaped chair, the nakedness, the words, the four leaf, the green, peace and luck...
awesomeness.
Im waiting as well as Philippines.
Maui
First, you are peace, you are love, you are inspiration. The way you tell a story is a cool breeze on a sultry day. You are the sunrise, the first glimpse of beauty at the begining of everyday.Second I hope you do read your comments sometimes and realize how fabulous all of your followers are. I personally feel privileged to be surrounded by all of these people and I hope you feel the same way. I love all of you! Be true, Be you< Spread the love!
you have the exact same cat as i do. My girl is named Autumn. She even has the same mouth.
Oh do I miss a beautiful walk through the soft sands of Anini Beach as I read your thoughts for the day. I can hear the breeze whisper through the trees on the quiet inlet bay of just a few eyes. Thank you for awakening the good memory to bring a smile to my face and the peace to my after-work mind.
Hi... Looking ways to market your blog? try this: http://bit.ly/instantvisitors

Cheers. :D You deserve those blessings :)

I'm trying to figure out where the rest of the kitty is?
At first glance this Jason and kitty photo is completely adorable and serene. Now, look again. It is creeping me out that it appears that the kitty is either draped over your shoulder - which is non-kitty like behavior - or it is missing its southern region.
Jedi mind trick?
Confucius want to know.
The kitty definitely found the clover.
I'm enjoying everything, finding the inteligent side , the bright side... I'm passing trough such a terrible heart situation... and thank you so much because your toughts are like a rainbow in my life and your music is simply magic passing trough my ears...Shine as the star that you are! And thank you so much for share your bright with us. Kiss! Peace!
@Laura,
Upon further inspection...that IS a little freaky. Must be skin-toned belly fur. On the cat, I mean. Or else Jason and the cat were so in tune with one another they somehow actually merged.
And Jason,
I hadn't planned to mention belly fur or cat merging in this comment. I really just wanted to say one thing after reading this post: Magnificent.
:)
oye, those four leaf clovers look kinda like pohinahina, a medicinal hawaiian herb!
hopefully some ideas about the history of where you're at are being revealed to you...hawaiian culture indeed does embody the essence of gratitude and sharing, and knowing the history of the places you visit while you're here enriches your experience so much more. frankly, it's responsible travel, especially in a place like this with such rich culture to offer.
:)

on 'oahu we have started a 99-acre community garden /nature preserve on land sacred to the hawaiian goddesses. venga y visitenos!
cuidate mucho!
certainly, in this situation, luck wasnt the moving hands but effort and preserverance.
having said that, effort and preserverance wont get your anywhere and anything you want either.
luck is when you think you are lucky.I have never found a four-leaf clover, either.
And i am lightened that you took a lovely picture with the lovely cat.

Someone said luck is just the moment when preparation meets opportunity. I truly believe that. I'd like to preface it with "having talent" as well. You had the necessary ingredient, talent, and you prepared a lot and opened yourself to opportunity. That is why you are successful.
Thanks for keeping all of us smiling.
I'm sure you don't read all these. But, I cannot express to you the hope that this blog gave me. I have been going through a lot of unpleasant things recently and I was just starting to think that I will never catch a break. But your words really spoke to me and brightened the light at the end of the tunnel. Planet Earth is so lucky to have you here. Thank you for your words.
Luck is all around me.
Love is all there is.
Thank you, J.

Renee ~ I had to jump in here and just thank you for sending your positive energy out to the whole group! I am new to this community, but had such an overwhelming desire to be a part of it. Everyone’s comments are focused on Jason, as they rightly should be (it is his blog after all!), but your acknowledgment of that fabulously beautiful thread connecting each one of us simply made my day! I hope that Jason does read the thousands of posts that he receives…this can be a lonely world, especially at the top…and the community surrounding us is what life it truly about. Thanks for sending the good vibes out into the universe, and may they all be returned to you with love. ~Amber
haha...your hat is same with the cat!!

raised I discover
in happiness and bliss~~

Hi Norma
Thanks for the shout out, though I'm not sure what nice thing I've done lately :) But what I do, I do in the moment and forget it soon enough - both the good and the bad. The few times I've attached expectations to my acts I've learned a bitter lesson. So I love being like a child - or immature in other words - and I do nice things when I'm feeling good and I do mean things when I'm feeling bad. But I always make amends if I do wrong, and don't expect anything from anyone for the good things. This I'm always (90% of the time) happy and I ignore whatever seems unpleasant.
Simplistic, but works for me :)
I've noticed you on this page often, glad to "meet" you :)
Love
Gigi
I found 7 total in my life and they are all with people who needed them more then me.
Gigi- I got the grunge too- hope you feel better!!
ahhahaahh awesome cat picture..
First off, Thank you for having written this on my birthday.
About a month ago I was sitting on a bus making my way through the maze of the city, reflecting on the way my life is going and what I feel I need to do, while listening to my iPod. Think I was actually listening to Plane.
The answer is Music, since music is all I breathe and it is love. "Where words fail, music speaks."
I started playing the guitar about two months ago and have only written about three songs, so my mind told me "The road is long J, you still have a long way to go..."
Instead of letting this thought take away my motivation, I replied "That's okay, Mind. Heart rules this one."
When I took my iPod to turn up the volume I saw the most amazing thing. The wire that connects my headphones to the iPod formed a single line clover.
Luck is all around me.
Love is all there is.
I am that I am.
I am on my way.
Love,
J.
